Hi and welcome to Laid Back.

I am Gail Watson and I created Laid Back Headboards. I manufacture and specialise in upholstered headboards or bedheads as some like to call them. My goal is to make you a beautiful headboard that gives your bedroom a focal point and the bonus of added comfort. When you walk past your bedroom and double back for a second look and get the WOW factor or that lovely warm feeling of satisfaction then I have done my job.

What started out as a request from a friend wanting me to make a basic headboard for his bed manufacturing business a few years ago has grown into a business driven by passion and based on the need to produce a quality eco friendly product that is affordable but still a bespoke piece.

My headboards grace bedrooms as far south as Wellington and north to Warkworth. When I see a new style, a fabulous fabric or I just see the picture of a bedroom that could be enhanced, I think “What if”. Before long, not able to contain my imagination or my tools a new design and headboard springs to life just waiting for a buyer who gets as excited as I am.

I started in the lounge of my home of my home and then created an artisan workshop and gallery on the banks of the Wanganui River but unfortunately flooding has forced me to make an unexpected move a back home and I have turned my space into a studio and workshop.

My background is in interior design and residential real estate. These previous occupations coupled with manufacturing experience have given me the skills to listen and nurture the desires of those clients that want to take the time and make the investment in creating a one off unique headboard. My advantage is that I not only see the headboard but can picture the whole bedroom in my mind before we start.

I have created this range of headboards and I hope seeing the pictures in bedroom settings will be a guide for you as to the unlimited possibilities.

I use a step by step design process to assist you to get through the many design options if you need help. You may know exactly what you want but if you are undecided I have given you a check list to help and I’m only a call or email away.

In the local area I do in home consultations and on appointments in my studio we just sit on the floor creating beautiful things. Recently I am getting more work doing full bedroom makeover’s and assist with choosing the right finishing touches.
